The executive-class, high-gloss, 24-carat gold, mother-of-pearl inlaid, split-diamond sparkler that is the Black Beauty. Guitar of dreams! This 1989 model's most like the 68 Les Paul Custom, the two humbucker, maple-capped beauty that relaunched the Custom after it was discontinued in the early-60s. Gibson put everything into this guitar! The generous pearl inlays to the headstock and fretboard, the bound ebony fretboard, all that gold hardware, the 5 and 7 layer binding on the headstock and body. And the low frets that earned this guitar its second nickname, "The Fretless Wonder". Loaded with Bare Knuckle Old Guard Humbuckers, it sounds fantastic. Lashings of cream in the neck position, plenty of roar and bite at the bridge, and that fantastically low action up and down the board. In great condition for its age, with the dents and wear you'd expect, but nothing that detracts from its playability and sound. We were not expecting this level of care and attention to detail. He was very thorough and took interest in the music and what we were recording which showed us that he actually cares about the process. He even had the guitars set up for a different tuning which we had requested. We highly recommend Iain's services for anyone that is looking for a wholesome guitar rental experience.

Renting from Iain was a great experience, from handover to returning; everything went really well. We had tight timings for a music video and Iain showed up when required to deliver one of his beautiful guitars which we made sure to look after (and showcase) in the music video. Glad to have come across him and his wide collection of guitars, and will definitely be looking to hire again when in need.
