Description
Beautiful Cherry Red Epiphone EA-250, one of the earliest guitars to come out of the Matsumoku plant, when Gibson transferred all Epiphone build out of the US to Japan in 1970. Looks-wise, this guitar's got it all. That beautiful Cherry Red body, contrasting perfectly with the natural maple neck, the 6-layer body top binding, the 3-layer fretboard binding, squat 60s style headstock, mother-of-pearl inlays, the Bigsby-esque tremolo, with carved wooden harp insert, and those uniquely sized humbuckers (something between a humbucker and a P-90), already retro-style by the early 70s. These guitars have a bit of a reputation for poor playability. But I've had the work done to restore that playability. Now, a lovely sounding thinline guitar. Those humbuckers have buckets of warmth and response - and sustain just the right side of feedback as you push the volume up. Has the dents and nicks you'd expect from a guitar that's nearly 50 years old, but plays and sounds great. Fantastic experience from start to finish. Iain was incredibly helpful, polite and enthusiastic, and even provided an extra bag of useful tools, including a clip-on tuner. The 1972 Fender Precision Bass and amp were in pristine condition, sounded incredible and genuinely elevated our rehearsal session. Excellent service all round – I’ll absolutely be hiring from Iain again.
